Terms of Use

These conditions govern every visit, search, and use of content on this website. Using the site means accepting all terms below. Anyone who does not agree must discontinue use.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website has no affiliation with a local, state, or federal government body. The site and its advertising partners do not offer services for credit, employment, insurance, tenant, or other decisions regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Its purpose is to identify criminal-record resources in Steuben County, New York. It is neither a private investigation firm nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site operated independently of all government offices. It does not store official records, perform official background checks, retrieve files, or submit documents for a visitor.

Its content points toward the Steuben County Sheriff, criminal court clerks, New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, and New York State Sex Offender Registry. Some pages also connect visitors with outside research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Every user agrees not to:

  • Use bots, scraping software, or other automated tools against the pages
  • Harass, stalk, threaten, or intimidate anyone with information found here
  • Interfere with site performance or another visitor's access
  • Use site content for hiring, housing, credit, or insurance decisions
  • Attempt unauthorized access to any system or data
  • Violate federal, New York, or local law through use of the site

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No information from this site or a linked tool may be used to stalk, threaten, harass, intimidate, or discriminate against another person. Such conduct is prohibited and may be criminal. New York's Sex Offender Registration Act, Correction Law Article 6-C, controls disclosure and use of New York State Sex Offender Registry data. Registry information supports community safety, not confrontation, vigilantism, blacklisting, or discrimination.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and create no credit report, background check, or consumer report. Our advertising partners and this site do not provide services intended for regulated screening. A user may not rely on site data or a linked tool to:

  • Assess creditworthiness or calculate an insurance premium
  • Make an employment decision
  • Evaluate a rental or housing application
  • Decide eligibility for a permit, license, or government benefit
  • Carry out any other action governed by the FCRA

A check required for a regulated purpose must come from an authorized official channel or a screening provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

Site content is not legal advice. General descriptions of Steuben County record access cannot determine how a charge, warrant, conviction, or record-sealing law affects an individual matter. A licensed New York attorney should address those questions.

6. No Warranties

All content and services are provided "as is." No guarantee is made that:

  • Partner search results will be accurate or complete
  • The pages contain no bug, mistake, or security weakness
  • Information is current, complete, and correct at all times
  • The website will operate continuously without interruption

Criminal records can change when charges are filed, dismissed, amended, or sealed. Gaps and delays can occur. Site content is never an official statement from a court, sheriff, or other public agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to sheriff pages, court portals, state agencies, legal aid resources, or outside search services. We do not control those destinations and accept no responsibility for their content, privacy practices, fees, or availability. Review the destination's own terms before use.

8. Intellectual Property

Steuben County Criminal History or its content partners own the site's text, graphics, logos, and code. Copying, distribution, modification, or derivative use requires prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the broadest extent allowed by law, we are not responsible for damages arising from site use, including reliance on information supplied here or by a linked service.

10. Indemnification

A user agrees to hold us harmless from claims, demands, or proceedings caused by that user's conduct or breach of these terms, including related legal fees and costs.

11. Governing Law

New York law governs these terms. Public agency record access is addressed by Public Officers Law Article 6, while Executive Law §837 governs DCJS criminal-history functions and lawful dissemination. Any dispute connected with use of the site must be brought in a court located in New York.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised at any time. A revision takes effect when it is posted here.

13. Cutting Off Access

We may restrict or end access at any time, for any reason, without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one provision is held invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue in effect. The affected language will be changed only as far as needed for enforcement.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be directed through the Contact page.
